Jagran correspondent, Moradabad. Layers of investigation are continuously being revealed in the GST evasion case. In the GST evasion of Rs 989.13 crore by showing fake turnover of Rs 5478.35 crore through 535 firms, the focus of the investigating agencies has shifted to truck owners and freight transportation networks.

In the joint investigation of GST SIB and Special Investigation Team (SIT), a detailed list of trucks has been recovered from Parminder, a resident of Fatehgarh, Punjab, who had prepared fake e-waybill, on the basis of which further investigation is being given more depth. The actual movement of the trucks which were shown on paper by Parminder by preparing fake e-way bills, will now be confirmed from the toll plaza records.

SIT has received the complete list of truck numbers. This investigation will be done on the basis of these numbers. Whether the trucks were actually entered from the respective toll plazas of the routes on which freight transportation has been shown or not. If entry of these trucks is not found in the records of the toll plaza, then it will become clear that the e-waybills were fake and the goods were not transported.

The investigating agencies are now preparing to interrogate the truck owners also. Efforts are being made to find out whether, without the knowledge of the truck owners, their vehicles were used to create fake e-waybills. Besides, it is also being investigated that the amount shown in the name of freight transportation was actually given to whom and how much.

The digital data recovered from Parminder is being closely examined, which is expected to contain important information related to transactions, fake bills and payments. The SIT is also investigating whether any amount was transferred directly or indirectly to the accounts of the truck owners.

For this, bank accounts, UPI transactions and other digital payment means are being investigated. If suspicious amounts are found in the accounts of truck owners, their role will also come under investigation. It is being told that this network of GST evasion is spread across many states and an organized system of fake firms, middlemen and paper transactions was working in it.

In this investigation which started from Moradabad, links to other districts and states have also come to light. The investigating agencies are also finding out to whom the tax evasion amount reached by showing fake turnover.

Based on the list of truck numbers, the e-waybill, their route and the records of the respective toll plaza will be checked. Digital data and bank accounts are also being investigated. The investigation will be conducted completely impartially and in-depth, action will be taken against the culprits. Four have been arrested so far. Further action is underway.
