Finishing work of multilevel parking stopped in Nehru Place Market. Awakening

Jagran correspondent, South Delhi. Nehru Place, Asia's largest computer hardware market, receives around two lakh customers daily from NCR including Delhi. Due to limited space, customers face the problem of parking their vehicles. The car has to be parked from the service road to the outer ring road.

While this creates inconvenience in commuting to the market, the area also often remains in the grip of traffic jams. To solve the problem, the work of multi-level parking was started seven years ago, which was to be completed in 18 months. But first due to lockdown, then due to various reasons the work kept getting delayed. There was a plan to start it in December 2025 after completing only the finishing work, but now pollution has stopped it. Due to grape restrictions, the work from finishing to making the footpath and the road around the parking lot has come to a halt. Now people will be able to get its benefits only in the year 2026.

There are total 110 towers in Nehru Place Market. There are more than 16,000 offices and shops in which about 1.5 lakh people work. Computers, mobiles, laptops and other electronic gadgets are repaired in the market. People also get customized PCs made as per their requirement. MCD already has 15 surface parking here, which has a capacity of 1300 vehicles. To increase the parking capacity, DDA passed a budget of Rs 62 crore from the Urban Development Fund in the year 2019 and started the work of multi-level parking.

However, since then the deadline for completing the work has been extended several times. Work has picked up pace for some time now. A DDA official said that the construction work of multilevel parking has been completed. Now its painting work is going on. The work of building roads and footpaths on the banks is still pending. Work has stopped due to grape restrictions. As soon as it is removed, efforts are being made to complete the remaining work and start multi-level parking soon.

Meanwhile, President of All Nehru Place Development and Welfare Association, Mahendra Aggarwal said that due to delay in completion of the parking work, not only the shopkeepers are facing problems, but the customers coming to the market also have to face difficulties in parking their vehicles. For the last four months, the roads on three sides of the multilevel parking have also been kept closed by putting up tin sheds.
