Till Tuesday, a total of 4,391 candidates have filed their nomination papers across the state. The details of the candidates contesting the elections are as follows:
There was a huge turnout for nominations on Tuesday, with 2,967 candidates filing their nominations in one day alone. These include 277 nominations for the post of Mayor/President and 2,690 nominations for the post of Councilor.
Strong participation of half the population
The enthusiasm of women in this election is visible. So far, 169 women have nominated for the post of Mayor and President, while 2,058 women have nominated for the post of Ward Councilor. On Tuesday too, a large number of women candidates filed their nominations in a show of strength.

With the receipt of election symbols on February 7, the vigorous campaigning of the candidates will begin. The Commission has made strict arrangements for security and transparency at all the centres.
