Digital Desk, New Delhi. A court has granted statutory bail to former TDB administrative officer Murari Babu in the gold theft cases related to Sabarimala temple in Kerala. Kollam Vigilance Court Judge Mohit C.S. granted bail to Babu as 90 days had passed since his arrest and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) had failed to file charge sheets in both the cases.

Babu is the second accused in the case which pertains to the gold stolen from the plates of the Dwarapalaka (protector deity) idols and the sixth accused in the case of gold stolen from the doors of the main sanctum. He is expected to be released by Friday evening. He will be the first person to be released from jail in this case.

He was arrested in October last year. He was arrested on conspiracy charges related to gold theft. At the time of his arrest, Babu was serving as Deputy Devaswom Commissioner in Haripad and when the gold theft incident came to light last year, he was suspended from service.

Earlier, Potti was granted statutory bail by the court in the Dwarapalak Murthy case. The SIT has so far made 16 people accused in the Dwarapalak idol case and 13 people in the main sanctum door case.
