Jagran correspondent, Ghaziabad. NDRF's humanitarian mission under Operation Sagar Bandhu continues in Sri Lanka. The soldiers have so far saved more than 150 people. Pregnant women are also safe. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has evacuated more than 150 people from areas affected by the devastating cyclone Ditvaha in Sri Lanka.
There is a serious situation of landslides and floods in many areas. The Government of India has sent two teams of 80 members and four search dogs to Sri Lanka under Operation Sagar Bandhu. These teams have been deployed in disaster affected areas Kaduwela, Badulla and Puttalam, where they are doing very commendable work. So far 70 people have been rescued.
More than 80 have been evacuated to safe places. Along with this, the soldiers are also taking out the livestock safely. With the help of Sri Lankan security forces and administration, NDRF teams are also distributing relief material and food packets to the needy people. On the other hand, the team is also searching for people buried under the massive debris.
So far, two bodies have been pulled out. The team has also successfully rescued a nine-month pregnant woman from Puttalam. The 80-member team led by Praveen Kumar Tiwari, Commandant of the Eighth Corps of NDRF, also includes four women rescue workers, who have been given the special responsibility of helping local women. Commandant Praveen Kumar Tiwari said that till now more than 24 tonnes of relief material has been sent from NDRF Ghaziabad to Sri Lanka. NDRF team is engaged in relief operations day and night.
