New Rules 1 January 2026: What will change?

1. 8th Pay Commission

The year 2026 can bring good news for government employees. The 8th Pay Commission came into effect across the country from 1 January 2026 i.e. today. Under the 8th Pay Commission, important decisions can be taken regarding pension and salary of government employees.

How much increase is possible in the 8th Pay Commission?

There are no confirmed figures yet, but initial estimates point towards an increase of 20-35%.

There was about 40% increase in the 6th Pay Commission

There was an impact of 23-25% in the 7th Pay Commission, the fitment factor was 2.57.

Fitment factor in 8th Pay Commission may remain between 2.4 to 3.0

Employees and pensioners are more likely to get increased amount and arrears in FY 2026-27.

2. Prices of CNG and PNG will decrease

This change in charges in the Unified Tariff System can have a direct impact on the prices of CNG and PNG. If media reports are to be believed-

CNG prices may come down by about Rs 1.25 to Rs 2.50 per kg.

Apart from this, there may be relief in PNG prices by Rs 0.90 to Rs 1.80 per SCM.

If the price decreases in PNG, then people who drive through PNG every day and use cooking gas can benefit from it.

3. Interest rates of banks will change

In the Monetary Committee meeting held in December, RBI has reduced the repo rate by 0.25 percent. This deduction will have a direct impact on the interest rate of the loan. Due to lower interest rate, you will also get relief in EMI paid every month.

After the repo rate cut, it depends on the banks whether they will cut the interest rate or not.

4. LPG cylinder price will reduce

On the first of every month, the gas agency reviews the price of LPG cylinder and decides whether to change it or not. Your expenses reduce due to reduction in gas agency prices. Let us know how much the gas agency has changed the cylinder price today.

5. Changes in social media

6. Implementation of New Income Tax Bill

In the year 2025, the government had given many tax related relief to the common man. Last year, the government has reduced the tax on goods and services i.e. GST. Along with this, the New Income Tax Bill was also passed. Many tax related changes will be made under this bill, which will come into effect from April 2026.
