New year begins with severe cold and cold wave
Jagran Bureau, New Delhi. In North India, the new year may start with severe cold and cold wave. The continuous activity of western disturbance in the mountains will affect the plains.
According to the Meteorological Department, due to snowfall and rain in the mountains, there will be a continuous decline in the minimum temperature for the next three-four days and conditions of cold wave, cold day and dense fog may persist in many states from Punjab to Bihar.
New year begins with severe cold and cold wave
After the rains in late December and early January, cold is expected to intensify further. The Meteorological Department says that three consecutive western disturbances are active over the mountains in the north. The status of one is currently with Himachal. The second will be active on Saturday, while another western disturbance is likely to reach the mountains on December 30.
Due to this, moderate rain will continue in Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal and Uttarakhand and snowfall in high altitude areas. This sequence may continue till January 1. The effect of snowfall on the mountains will be seen in the form of cold winds in the plains, due to which the minimum temperature will drop rapidly.
The wind speed is slightly faster in Delhi and surrounding areas. Due to this, the weather is likely to remain clear for two-three days and there will be sunshine during the day, but there will be a drop in the night temperature. Light to moderate fog may prevail in the morning till 28th December.
Mercury will fall in the plains due to western disturbance in the mountains.
The minimum temperature is expected to reach 5 to 7 degrees Celsius. After this, fog can become denser in the end of December and the first week of January. A warning of dense to very dense fog along with cold wave has been issued in Punjab and Haryana.
Visibility may be less than 50 meters in the morning in many areas. Cold wave conditions may persist in these states till December 30. There is also a possibility of frost in some areas.
There is a warning of dense fog in western Uttar Pradesh till December 29, while cold wave conditions may prevail at some places in eastern Uttar Pradesh till Saturday. Dense fog, cold day and cold wave will affect Bihar between 27th and 30th December.
The cold will be more severe in the night and morning. The temperature has also started falling in the northern districts of Madhya Pradesh and some parts of Chhattisgarh. Fog has started appearing at some places. Cold may increase in the coming days.
