Jagran correspondent, Ballia. An important initiative has been taken towards strengthening road safety in the district and providing modern training to drivers. 4.050 hectares of land has been identified by the Transport Department for the establishment of the Indian Institute of Driving and Traffic Research Center (IDTR).
This land has been selected in Chanddiyar area of Bairiya tehsil. According to departmental sources, the work of construction of building, training track, administrative block and other infrastructure will be started as soon as financial approval (fund) is received for the construction of the institute.
Will benefit from modern training
After the establishment of IDTR, the process of obtaining driving license in the district will become more robust and transparent. Applicants seeking license must first undergo training for a prescribed period at the institute. During the training, special attention will be given to subjects like traffic rules, road safety, technical knowledge of vehicle operation and response in emergency situations.
After completing the training, the candidates will be tested and only if successful, a driving license will be issued. This will stop the trend of issuing licenses without adequate training.
Expectation of reduction in road accidents
Experts believe that a major reason behind the increasing road accidents in the district is inadequate training and ignorance of traffic rules. The operation of IDTR will create trained and aware drivers, which is likely to reduce accidents.
Till now, candidates had to go to other districts for such advanced training institutes. Availability of this facility in Ballia itself will save both time and money. Besides, employment opportunities will also be created for local youth.
Land has been identified for IDTR in Bairiya tehsil area, it will be sent to the government. The construction work will be started as soon as the approval and budget is received from the government. -Arun Kumar, ARTO, Ballia.
