Passengers will get electric bus facility on local routes.
Jagran correspondent, Chandigarh. As soon as Prime Minister Narendra Modi showed the green flag virtually from Guwahati, 25 new electric buses started running on the roads of Chandigarh from Saturday. All these buses will run on local routes. 80 electric buses are already operating, the number of which has now increased to 105. Apart from this, 75 e-buses will be available by April-May.
Each bus has a seating capacity of 36 passengers with one wheelchair space and standing space for 20 passengers. Features like front and rear air suspension, front disc brakes, passenger information display and voice based next stop announcement are also available.
Apart from CCTV cameras, there is also the facility of emergency button inside the buses. There will be a record of every passenger and in case of emergency, the passenger can press the emergency button.
New e-buses will run on these routes
Diesel buses will be phased out by 2027–28
When the PM was virtually flagging off the electric buses under the PM e-Bus Seva Yojana, the program was also going on at the Sector-43 bus stand in Chandigarh. On this occasion, senior officials of Chandigarh administration including the Administrator of UT Chandigarh were present.
Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria said that the administration has set a target to phase out all diesel buses and replace them with electric buses by the financial year 2027–28. Our effort is to ensure that people get buses every 15 minutes on busy routes.
