Jagran correspondent, Bhubaneswar. It was 6:30 in the morning. Nothing was visible on the roads. Wherever one looked, there was dense fog everywhere. Be it from Jaydev Vihar to Rasulgarh or from Khandagiri to Samantarapur – Chandrashekharpur, Barmunda, Patiya, Kalpana, AG, Rajmahal – the same scene was being seen everywhere.
Till 8 am today, Lingaraj Temple was not clearly visible even from a distance of 200 meters. At many places the fog was so dense that drivers were unable to see the road. Some vehicles were hitting near the divider while others' vehicle speed had reduced to less than 20 km per hour.
In the airport area, the minimum visibility recorded was 100 meters between 5:30 am and 7:30 am. Later, there was a slight improvement, but till 9 am the visibility remained only 600 meters. The people of Bhubaneswar had to face a lot of problems due to being in the grip of dense fog.
Traffic was completely affected due to fog. Movement became very difficult for those going to work in the morning. There was fear in the minds of those who were coming out. The speed of autos and cars including city buses had slowed down considerably. Some train services were also affected. There was dissatisfaction among the passengers due to not reaching the station on time.
The Meteorological Department has said that similar conditions may persist in Bhubaneswar for the next 4 days. There is no possibility of any major change in day and night temperatures. There is a possibility of dense fog in Bhubaneswar for the next 24 hours. There may be some change in fog conditions from 28th.
On the other hand, keeping in mind the dense fog, the State Transport Authority (STA) has issued precautionary guidelines. It is reported that dense fog is being seen in various parts of the state, due to which drivers are not able to see the road clearly. In such a situation, it has been advised not to drive in dense fog to avoid accidents.
If absolutely necessary, extreme caution has been asked. It has been advised to always keep headlights on while driving, use fog lamps, keep an eye on road signs and other traffic signals and not to drive while drowsy or drowsy.
