State Bureau, New Delhi. The Delhi Transport Department on Saturday issued a public notice stating that any old vehicle parked or running on the roads will be scrapped without any prior notice.

The purpose of this step is to strictly enforce air pollution standards in the National Capital. Diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years come in the category of old vehicles.

In its notice, the transport department has requested owners of old vehicles to obtain No Objection Certificate (NOC) and take their vehicles out of the city.

"Old BS-III and low emission standard vehicles plying in public places in Delhi will be confiscated and scrapped without any prior notice as per law. Owners of such vehicles are advised to obtain NOC before taking them out of NCR," the notice said.

Transport Department officials said that a new campaign will soon be started to remove old vehicles from the city.
