OpenAI CEO Sam scared of AI's 'tricks'.
Jagran News, New Delhi. Now OpenAI CEO Sam Altman himself seems worried about the rapidly growing scope of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its possible side effects. He has announced recruitment for an important post named 'Head of Preparedness' on the internet media platform X, whose objective will be to timely identify and deal with the threats arising from AI.
An annual package of about $5.55 lakh (about Rs five crore, equity separately) has been proposed for this post. The company has also openly admitted for the first time that the mental and psychological effects of AI are as serious as the technical dangers. Sam Altman made it clear that this would be an extremely stressful responsibility. The selected person will have to understand how AI can take dangerous forms and how to control it.
According to him, the biggest challenge is to ensure that cyber security experts can use the power of AI, but hackers and attackers are not able to misuse it. The new executive will manage OpenAI's overall risk strategy with a focus on sensitive areas such as cybersecurity, biosecurity and self-improving AI systems.
Issues related to mental health are increasing. Amidst all the advantages of AI, negative incidents related to it in recent months have increased the concern. Questions have been raised on the role of AI chatbots in matters related to mental health. In some cases, there have been allegations that AI advice promoted violent incidents and suicidal tendencies.
Let us tell you that many lawsuits have come to light regarding ChatGPT, in which it has been alleged that AI chatbot played a role in cases like suicide among teenagers or promoted confusion and conspiratorial thinking among the people. One person has also been charged with murder-suicide.
AI has found ways to enter the computer
Altman wrote on X that AI agents are evolving very rapidly, which poses serious challenges. He believed that AI based cyber weapons could become a big threat in the future. For this reason, OpenAI is now placing more emphasis on security and risk management than ever before. He publicly acknowledged that AI agents have become an emerging problem.
According to OpenAI, some of its advanced AI models are now able to identify serious vulnerabilities in computer security systems. This recruitment is considered more important amid the fear of cyber threats caused by AI. Recently, OpenAI's rival company Anthropic had claimed that China-linked hackers used its AI tools to carry out cyber attacks on about 30 institutions around the world - tech companies, financial institutions and government agencies - with very little human intervention.
