Samvad Sutra, Jagran, Gauchar (Chamoli): Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that in order to provide improved seeds to the farmers, an additional budget of Rs 90 crore will be given to the state for setting up a clean plant center at a cost of Rs 100 crore in Mukteshwar (Nainital), and for fencing it for protection from wild animals. He also announced the creation of a Kiwi Center of Excellence in Uttarakhand with the cooperation of New Zealand.

On Monday, on the occasion of state level Farmers Day dedicated to the welfare and economic upliftment of farmers at Gauchar Mela ground in Chamoli district, Union Agriculture Minister Chauhan along with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami transferred the insurance amount of Rs 65.12 crore online through DBT to 88 thousand farmers under the weather based crop insurance scheme.

Handing over a copy of the letter approved by the Center to Chief Minister Dhami, he said that under PMGSY, 1,228.2 km of roads will be constructed to connect 309 habitations of the state. An amount of Rs 1,706.94 crore has been approved for this. The Union Minister said that due to bad plants, the hard work of the farmers goes waste, hence from the Clean Plant Center to be built in Mukteshwar, they will be able to get good saplings of citrus fruits including Kiwi, Apple and Malta.

He said that the Prime Minister is emphasizing on integrated farming for more production in small farms. For this, we will have to promote animal husbandry and fish farming along with fruit-vegetable and herb production. During this, the Union Minister also communicated directly with the farmers. Chief Minister Dhami said that about nine lakh farmers of the state are benefiting from schemes like Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi, Crop Insurance Scheme, Soil Health Card, Natural Farming and Digital Agriculture. Irrigation facility is completely free for them. Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi also expressed his views in the program.
