PTI, Mumbai. Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has decided to refund the toll amount collected from motorists who were stuck in the traffic jam for 33 hours following the gas tanker accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. This decision will benefit about one lakh people stuck in the traffic jam.
On February 3, traffic was halted for about 33 hours after a gas tanker overturned on the Khopoli section of the expressway. Due to this, traffic was disrupted for several kilometers. Due to the jam, many drivers and passengers faced shortage of water, food and other basic facilities.
Money was deducted from Fastag
After the accident, the administration had ordered immediate suspension of toll collection. However, by then, toll charges had already been deducted from the Fastag accounts of many drivers.
Amount will be deposited in Fastag accounts
A senior official of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation said on Sunday that despite the order to stop toll collection, it has been decided to refund the entire amount recovered from the vehicle owners.
This refund amount of approximately Rs 5.16 crore will be paid by MSRDC. This amount will be deposited directly into the Fastag accounts of affected vehicle owners in the next few days.
