Digital Desk, New Delhi. Captain Sumit Kapoor, the pilot who lost his life in Ajit Pawar's plane crash, was not going to fly the flight that day. According to his friends, he had gone for this flight at the last moment in place of another pilot.
The pilot who was to fly was stuck in traffic, so Sumit Kapoor was sent in his place. Captain Sumit Kapoor had returned from Hong Kong just a few days ago. Friends say that they were informed about this flight only a few hours before the accident.
He had to go to Baramati with Ajit Pawar from Mumbai, where Pawar was to participate in election programs. At around 8 am, the Learjet-45 aircraft operated by Delhi-based company VSR Ventures took off from Mumbai. A total of five people including Ajit Pawar were on board the plane.
The accident occurred at around 8.45 am during the second landing attempt at Baramati airport. All five people on board the plane died on the spot. The deceased include Captain Sumit Kapoor, co-pilot Captain Shambhavi Pathak, flight attendant Pinky Mali and Ajit Pawar's security guard Vidip Jadhav.
Bad weather became the cause of the accident
According to sources, initial investigation has revealed possible pilot misjudgment during landing amid bad weather and low visibility. However, the possibility of a technical glitch has not been ruled out and its investigation is ongoing.
But Captain Kapoor's friends say that he was a very experienced pilot and the chances of him making such a mistake are very less. Friends have demanded an impartial and thorough investigation into this accident.
Memories of family and friends
Friends described Sumit Kapoor as a very kind person, who loved flying the most. Many people in his family are also associated with aviation. His son and son-in-law are both pilots. Both his son and daughter are married. One of his brothers does business in Gurugram.
Friend Sachin Taneja told that Sumit Kapoor was identified from the bracelet worn on his wrist. At the same time, Naresh Taneja said that after hearing the news of the accident, no one could believe that Sumit Kapoor is no more in this world. Friend GS Grover told that after returning from Hong Kong, Kapoor had a long talk with him and advised him to take special care of his health.
