Political Battle Over National Law University; PDP MLA Writes Letter To CM, Reminds Him Of Promise To Build It In Budgam

Some people in Jammu are opposing the establishment of National Law University in Kashmir.

State Bureau, Srinagar. Now the People's Democratic Party has also come into the fray in the controversy that started regarding the establishment of National Law University. PDP MLA Agha Syed Muntajir Mehdi has written a letter to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, asking him to keep his promise and fulfill his promise of establishing it at Ompura Budgam.

It is noteworthy that in October last, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had announced to start it in Ompora Budgam till the permanent campus is identified for the National Law University. Since then the discussion is going on that it will be established in Budgam only.

Various organizations in Jammu want it to be established in Jammu itself. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took a strong stance on this in Jammu last Monday and said that National Law University is being built in Kashmir, hence some people in Jammu are protesting.

When IIT and IIM were built in Jammu, people in Kashmir did not protest, at that time no one in Jammu said that injustice was being done to Kashmir, an institute would also be built in Kashmir. He said that the government will decide where the National Law University will be built and when the time comes everyone will know.

PDP MLA reminded the Chief Minister of his promise

PDP MLA Agha Syed Muntazir Mehdi, elected from Budgam, wrote a letter to the Chief Minister, drawing his attention to the announcement of setting up National Law University in Budgam. He said that you yourself had assured that this institute would be built in Budgam and now it is being discussed that it can be built at some other place. This is injustice to the people of Budgam. You should be respectful of your words.

The PDP MLA said that your promise has not been seen as an administrative decision but as a big step towards confidence in the hopes of the youth of Central Kashmir and balanced regional development. Now, due to the way things are being talked about, people are confused and they want to clarify the situation and establish this institute in Budgam itself.
