Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Pratap Singh Bajwa.
Jagran correspondent, Amritsar. Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly and Congress MLA Pratap Singh Bajwa has put the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in the dock, raising serious questions on the law and order of the state. Bajwa issued a post on social media platform ‘X’ alleging that people in Punjab are forced to protect themselves.
Leader of Opposition Pratap Singh Bajwa took a jibe at Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, saying people, especially businessmen, were hiring private security guards as the state police had failed to provide basic security to the common people.
Bajwa wrote in his post, "Under the rule of Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party, Punjab Police has failed to provide basic security. People are forced to hire private guards. Suppressing dissent through FIRs is the priority, not the safety of citizens. Punjab needs accountable policing, not putting people under fear of gangsters."

Incidents of firing for ransom increased
Opposition parties have been putting pressure on the government for a long time regarding the growing gangster network, firing incidents and increase in crime in Punjab. This statement of Bajwa has come in the same sequence when extortion incidents have increased in Punjab. Not only this, people have been forced to hire security personnel for themselves and such cases have started increasing in the state.
AAP government is running a special campaign
However, the AAP government has claimed on several occasions that special drives are being run to curb crime in Punjab and strict measures are being taken against gangster crime networks. Encounter incidents are also coming to light every day. But the opposition says that the security situation at the ground level is still worrying.
