State Bureau, Dehradun. The electoral system has almost completed preparations for the proposed Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Uttarakhand and it is expected that this process will formally start from the month of April.

This time the state is going to get an important administrative relief in the revision process. After completion of SIR in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, the updated voter lists will be released there.

Due to which the mapping and verification work of the original residents of these states living in Uttarakhand can be done in a more simple and accurate manner. This will especially benefit the daughters-in-law who got married from these states.

Preparations regarding SIR in the state are in the final stages. Voter mapping work is going on at a rapid pace in all the districts. This work has been completed up to 75 percent.

In the districts where this work is going on at a slow pace, instructions have been given to speed it up. Under SIR, processes like comprehensive verification of voter list, registration of new voters, deletion of names of dead or transferred voters and change of address are done.

A large number of citizens reside in Uttarakhand, whose original residence is in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and other states. These have not been mapped yet.

The reason is that at present the mapping in the state is being done from the voter list of the year 2003. In such a situation, if the final published voter lists of those states are available, then identification of duplicate names and necessary amendments will be expedited.

Besides, the names of the relatives of the people who have come here from these states and become voters in recent years will also be in those lists. In such a situation, their names can be mapped to the voter lists of their parents or grandparents.

SIR will reduce the possibility of repetition

SIR will also ensure that no voter remains registered at two places and his name is registered as per his actual place of residence.

This will not only increase the transparency of the election process, but will also make the voter list more accurate and error-free for future elections.

On the other hand, State Chief Electoral Officer Dr. BVRC Purushottam has instructed all the District Election Officers to keep complete preparations for the SIR.
