Protest demonstration by labor organization in Satgram

Sons, Jagran, Raniganj: A protest was held on behalf of TMC labor union in front of the General Manager's office at the main gate of Satgram area of Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL). During the strike, local labor leader Tarakeshwar Singh made serious allegations against the policies of the management and the central government. He said that the rights of workers are being snatched away day by day and the present ECL management is neither concerned about the workers nor about the people of this area. Coal mines are continuously being privatized, due to which local workers are not getting employment opportunities. No new reinstatement of workers is taking place under ECL. Modern-Seven Village Colliery has been reduced to almost immovable condition. Similarly, a situation is being created for many collieries to be closed one by one due to lack of resources and personnel. He described it as a planned process under the political policies of the Central Government. He also said that electricity connections are being cut from workers' quarters, adding that the condition of many colliery areas has gone from bad to worse. The houses of many workers are falling into disrepair, but they are not even being repaired. Addressing the protest, he said that the objective of any industry is to develop the area and provide employment to the local people, but the policies of the present central government are completely anti-labor. He warned that if the management did not take these problems seriously soon, the labor unions would be forced to agitate.
