Digital Desk, Jammu. Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itu on Monday said the Public Safety Act (PSA) will be removed immediately after Union Territory Jammu and Kashmir gets statehood back.

Speaking in the Assembly, Minister Itu said that during the PDP-BJP government, youth were arrested and sent to jails outside Jammu and Kashmir.

“I want to remind them that when PDP-BJP were in power, children were detained and sent to jails outside the state,” she said, rejecting attempts to blame the National Conference for such acts.

We don't have a home department right now

On PSA, Sakina Itu said the National Conference has already made its position clear in its manifesto. The party is ready to work for the return of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and once statehood is restored, steps will be taken to remove the PSA and bring back youth lodged in jails outside Jammu and Kashmir.

He made it clear that right now the elected government does not have control over the Home Department. “When the Home Department comes to us, we will review the PSA and related matters.” This statement of the Minister came amid the heated debate in the House on the youth lodged in jails outside Jammu and Kashmir and the removal of the Public Safety Act.
