Vidya Sagar, Patna. The plan to install state-of-the-art surveillance radar at Jaiprakash Narayan International Airport is pending due to lack of land allotment.
The airport administration has demanded the required land for radar installation from the state government, but due to non-availability of land the project is not going ahead. According to officials, the required area for the radar has been marked and the proposal has been sent and the installation process will be started as soon as the land is received.
Four months ago, in September, the airport administration sent a proposal for land allotment to the government. About one acre of land measuring 90 by 100 meters has been marked for this near ICAR.
All small and big airports of the state will get real time data only from the radar installed at Patna Airport. Currently, radar facility is not available at Gaya, Darbhanga and Purnia airports operating in the state.
Patna is among the busiest regional airports in the country, where flight operations still depend mainly on visual and conventional navigation systems. In such a situation, installation of radar is considered extremely important for both the security and operational efficiency of the airport.
With the installation of radar, ATC will be able to provide real-time, accurate monitoring of aircraft. This will make aircraft separation and guidance more safe and error-free.
A large number of flights are affected every year due to fog and low visibility in Patna. After installation of radar, it will be easier for planes to land and take off safely even in such circumstances.
Air service will improve
Better monitoring will reduce flight delays and flight cancellations, which will provide great relief to passengers. There will be increased accuracy in entry, exit and altitude management of aircraft amid dense traffic, which will also increase airspace capacity.
Along with this, keeping in mind the increasing passenger pressure at Patna Airport and the possibility of international flights, the radar system is extremely necessary. This will give a new direction to the improvement and expansion of air services in the coming years.
The airport administration hopes that land will be made available soon, which will pave the way for the installation of radar and Patna Airport will become more safe and efficient by being equipped with modern technology.
