State Bureau, Chandigarh. The withheld pension of about 70 thousand elderly people has been released. The pension for November was released on Saturday, while the pension for December will come after two days i.e. on Monday. Not only this, now pension and assistance amount will be released to all sections on the 10th of every month.
Along with releasing the pension, the state government has given clear instructions that the payment of pension will not be stopped under any circumstances. Even if there is any doubt, the pension will continue until it is completely proven that the beneficiary is ineligible.
In fact, the Social Welfare Department had started stopping the pension of many elderly people in November. It is alleged that some elderly people are taking pension by giving wrong information about age and income. The relatives of many pensioners are also taking pension. In this way, pensions of about 70 thousand elderly people were stopped in November and December.
When controversy started on this, the opposition made it an issue. The main opposition party Congress also released the schedule of protests at all the district headquarters. Similarly, INLD and JJP also announced protests.
After the matter gained momentum, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini had called a meeting of officials on February 11. In this, along with three senior officers of the service department, 11 other officers related to pension were also called.
In this, the Chief Minister gave clear instructions to the officials that no pension should be withheld until the verification work is completed. Everyone's pension should be released. Along with this, notification of increase in all types of social security pensions was issued.
Notification to increase pension issued two months late
The government had announced the increase in pension in November, but issued the notification with a delay of two months. The Chief Minister has directed that the pension of any elderly person should not be stopped without his permission.
If the eligibility of any beneficiary seems doubtful, then a message should be sent to him explaining the reason and he should be given an opportunity to present his case. If the documents are incomplete, give instructions to submit them. If necessary, the officers themselves should go to the house of the elderly but continue the payment.
