Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. In a relief initiative for open schooling students, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has sought cooperation from its affiliated schools for NIOS examinations.

CBSE affiliated schools will now be able to become centers for examinations of National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) for class 10th, 12th and professional courses. This will provide relief to lakhs of students studying across the country from the compulsion of traveling to far-flung examination centres.

In this regard, CBSE has asked schools to register as examination centers for the NIOS board examinations to be held in April-May 2026. Schools can apply online on NIOS website till 31 December 2025.

Attendance was decreasing due to the exam center being far away.

Till now NIOS examination centers were very limited in many districts. Students had to travel several kilometers to appear for the exam. In many cases, they had to go to another city or district, due to which many students were not able to appear in the examination despite enrollment. NIOS connects those children who had missed their studies due to financial constraints, illness, family responsibilities or employment, back to education. Apart from 10th-12th, many professional courses like Computer, Health Care, Electrician, Beauty Culture and Artificial Intelligence are also conducted here.

CBSE officials said this collaboration with NIOS will strengthen the examination system as well as make education more inclusive.
