Ashwani Tripathi, Dehradun. Vehicles will be able to reach a speed of 60 km per hour on Rispana-Bindal elevated road. The Public Works Department had prepared its original design for a speed of 40 km per hour, but NHAI has asked to change the design keeping in mind the high-speed.

According to NHAI, the current design has many curves which pose a risk of accidents at speeds of 60 kmph. Therefore, in the new design, most of the curves are being removed and a straight alignment is being created, so that the vehicle can run safely even at high speed. Changing the alignment will have a direct impact on land acquisition, because wherever the road becomes straight, the need for new land will also increase.

In the project worth Rs 6200 crore, about 25 km long elevated road is to be built on the banks of Rispana-Bindal river. In this, the work from land acquisition to designing has been done by PWD, but its construction will be done by NHAI.

Before construction, NHAI inspected the design and gave its opinion that a large number of drivers will drive at a speed of 60 km per hour on the elevated road, in such a situation there will be a fear of accidents due to excessive turns. Therefore, curves should be removed by designing the road as per the speed of 60 km, wherever there are curves, they should also be designed in such a way that the speed of 60 km. There should be no danger to the vehicle traveling at a speed of .

Where the river changed, the road also had to change.

The main reason for the turns in this long corridor with about 70 turns is the strategy of minimum land acquisition. While planning to keep the elevated road parallel to the river, Lonvi also diverted the road along the bend of the river at many places. NHAI has objected to these sharp turns.

PWD will soon send its design to the Central Government. The final design will be decided only after approval. On the suggestion of Saurabh Singh, Project Director, NHAINHAI, changes in the design have been started to suit the speed of 60 km per hour. - Rajesh Sharma, Chief Engineer, Public Works Department.
