Jagran correspondent, Muzaffarpur. Two important roads of Sherpur Panchayat adjacent to the city have turned into potholes. The Rural Works Department is responsible for their construction, repair and maintenance. The period of five years has been completed. For this, Rs 15-15 lakh were included in the scheme under the maintenance policy.
Due to not being repaired even once, the condition of these roads has become hellish for almost two years. In the road leading from Sherpur Middle School to Sherpur Chowk and from Durga Mandir to Bangra, now instead of concrete, only potholes of two feet are visible.
The situation has become such that there is waterlogging throughout the year. People commute by falling. Six months ago, the Rural Works Department had said that the tender process would be started and till now the department is playing tender-tender only.
Executive Engineer Ramu Prasad said that the Sherpur Chowk road is likely to take about two more months. Its tender has been issued. Further process is going on. This means that even after the tender, the renovation of this road will take about six months. It will be October by the time the construction work is completed. This time again the people of Sherpur will have to face the pain of water logging.
Khanapuri was repaired after the movement
Last year, angry over water logging, local people and Sarpanch Nandan Kumar had protested by blocking the road. After this, the officials of the department woke up and at some places the pits were filled, but as soon as it rained, the layers got dislodged and then the pits got waterlogged.
Students face difficulty in going to school
The condition of the road leading from Durga Temple via Airtel office towards Bangra-Madhopur is even worse. Due to lack of drain, the road started breaking in the year 2020, just two years after its construction. The people of the locality have been suffering from water logging for more than three years. Rural Affairs Department officials are indifferent to this.
This road was also not repaired even once in five years. Due to waterlogging, school buses and autos hesitate to go to pick up small children from home. Due to this, the parents go to the main road to drop them. Executive Engineer of Rural Works Department said that the financial bid for this road has been opened. The tender process will be completed soon and work will be started within a month.
