When Shankarpur village of Nathnagar block lost its existence due to the strong current of Ganga years ago, the administration made arrangements to settle the entire village in Municipal Corporation Ward-31 near the airport area of the city. Sachchidanand Nagar Colony, built under the housing scheme, provided a new home to the people of Shankarpur. Here the villagers not only brought with them goods, they also brought with them their village goddess, Mother Saraswati, the presiding deity of knowledge.

This year, on Vasant Panchami, a 12 feet tall grand statue of Mother Saraswati has been installed here on Friday. A total of five idols are present along with Maa Sharda including Siddhidata Ganesha, Maa Lakshmi, Lord Kartikeya and Maa Bhagwati. A three-day fair has been organized along with the puja, in which sports competitions, cultural programs and presentation of rural talents will be the center of attraction.
