School gate jammed due to non payment of house rent

On Wednesday, due to non-payment of outstanding house rent in primary school Mushari Tola, Narayanpur under Saraigarh Bhaptiyahi block, the house owner blocked the main entrance of the school with a fork. Due to this incident, dozens of students studying in the school could not enter the school and the whole day's studies were disrupted.
It was told that the school is being run for years in the private land and building of a local person. In lieu of this, there was a provision of paying rent of one thousand rupees per month by the school management. This year, a dispute arose due to non-payment of rent on time.
When the children and teachers reached the school regularly on Wednesday morning, they saw that the road had been completely closed by placing a fork at the school gate. Due to the gate being closed, neither the children could enter the school nor the teachers could go inside. Seeing the situation, the children were disappointed and had to return home.
Due to this, an atmosphere of anger and anxiety was seen among the parents also. The teachers of the school told that the concerned land owner had been demanding the outstanding rent for a long time. He says that the rent has not been received for last one year and despite repeated requests, the school head is delaying the payment. Due to this anger, he closed the entrance of the school.
In this regard, school teacher Amarendra Kumar said that the school head was on leave on the day of the incident. When contacted on phone, Pradhan said that the school rent is paid annually, but this time due to some administrative reasons the payment has been delayed. He assured that the problem will be resolved soon.
It should be known that most of the students enrolled in this school come from the Mahadalit class, for whom this school is the only support of education. Stopping the education of these children due to gate jam is not only a violation of the right to education, but also raises questions on social sensitivity.
Local people say that this is the first incident of its kind, when the gate of a government school has been blocked due to a rent dispute. People have demanded from the Education Department and the District Administration to take immediate cognizance of the matter and make arrangements for payment of the dues, so that children's education can resume smoothly and such incidents do not recur in future.
