Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced the creation of seven new high-speed rail corridors (bullet train routes). These corridors will be more than 4,000 kilometers long and will have an estimated investment of more than Rs 16 lakh crore.
Stretching from Delhi to Varanasi, Mumbai to Pune and Chennai to Bengaluru, these new high-speed rail corridors aim to connect important economic hubs. High-speed rail means trains running on dedicated corridors that can run at speeds of more than 250 km per hour. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor currently under construction (with Japanese technology) is going to be completed soon.
These seven new corridors will provide strong connectivity to the western, southern and eastern parts of the country, increase employment, boost tourism and accelerate economic growth. Construction work is expected to start soon.
