Shahjahanpur: 23 Thousand Cameras Yet Criminals Remain Fearless! Know Why CCTV Became A 'showpiece' And A Headache For The Police

Jagran correspondent, Shahjahanpur. CCTVs have been installed at various places to keep an eye on criminal activities. By running the Operation Drishti campaign, CCTVs were installed at intersections and public places in the city and villages, but everywhere these CCTVs are monitoring the roads and walls.

If any incident happens at such places, it will be difficult for the police to even collect evidence. The Municipal Corporation administration is not paying attention to this. A CCTV was installed on a pole a few steps away from Pandit Ramprasad Bismil Park in Khirnibagh of the city, whose direction was towards the road below instead of the front. Same is the condition of CCTV installed in Sadar, Bahadurganj and many other places.

Last year in September, a large number of people had created a ruckus outside the Sadar police station. At the same time, the control of CCTV installed near the police station was down instead of in the right direction, due to which it was difficult for the police to even identify the people who created the ruckus.

It is the result of the negligence of the administration that all the CCTVs have become mere showpieces. Not only this, those putting up banners and posters also cover the CCTV. We are not getting time to take action against such people.

Negligence can prove costly

The administration and police have already started preparations for Laat Saheb to be released on Holi. Police officers have held several meetings regarding this, but even after that no one paid attention to the CCTV. If such carelessness continues, it can prove costly.

More than 23 thousand CCTVs installed

The police had started Operation Drishti campaign in the year 2023. Under this special campaign, 23 thousand 607 CCTVs were installed at 5 thousand 43 places. Due to the efforts of the police, the district reached second position in this campaign in the zone. More than three thousand 979 CCTVs have been installed in Sadar area. Whereas two thousand 260 CCTVs have been installed in Chowk Kotwali area.

From time to time, checks are made to ascertain whether CCTV is functional or not. Where there are shortcomings, improvements are also made. CCTVs installed at establishments are also asked to be placed in the right direction, so that small and big activities can be monitored.
