Sangraha Maurya and Vineeta Srivastava
Samvad Sutra, Simultala (Jamui). The horrific goods train accident near Simultala not only uprooted the tracks but also shook the administrative structure of Eastern Railway. After weeks of legal wrangling, rounds of transfers and CAT intervention, Asansol Railway Division has finally got its new regular Divisional Railway Manager in Sangrah Maurya.
Sangrah Maurya will take command...
As per the latest order (No. E(O)III-2026/TR/04(2)) issued by Railway Board on 29 January 2026, Sangrah Maurya (NFHAG/IRSE) will now be the regular DRM of Asansol Division. The Board has canceled his old transfer (Moradabad to East Coast Railway) and handed him the responsibility of this important industrial division.
Vineeta Srivastava: 5 months tenure and legal collection
The blame for the accident fell on the then DRM Vineeta Srivastava, whose tenure was limited to only 145 days. On January 2, there was an attempt to remove him, which he challenged in the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT). The tribunal clarified that DRM approval was not mandatory for relief work under the rules, thereby lending credence to the theory of them being made "scapegoats". As a result, the Railways finally had to bow down and the matter was calmed down by handing over the command of Moradabad Division (Northern Railway).
"Full stop" of temporary arrangement
Sudhir Kumar Sharma (CMM/Wagon/ER) was looking after the work as caretaker after the accident. CPRO Kolkata, Shivram Manjhi has confirmed that this temporary arrangement has ended with the new order. Now Sangrahan Maurya will face a big challenge to heal the wounds caused by the Simultala accident and completely streamline its operations. Key Points: This entire episode proved that the legal protection mechanism is now playing a very active role in the process of fixing responsibility in the Railways.
