Digital Desk, New Delhi/Lucknow. A massive display of security preparations was carried out in Uttar Pradesh on Friday evening on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and 'Uttar Pradesh Day'.
'Blackout mock drill' was organized in all the districts of the state including Barabanki, Maharajganj, Fatehpur, Varanasi, Meerut and Pilibhit.
The main objective of this exercise was to test the safety of civilians, quick rescue operations and coordination between various departments in emergency situations like wartime or air strikes.

As soon as the alarm sirens sounded at 6 pm, the 'blackout' came into effect in the designated areas. Electricity supply was completely cut off and the entire complex was plunged into darkness.
There was silence from Banaras Railway Engine Factory (Bareka) in Varanasi to DN College in Meerut.

Same was the condition of Drummond Inter College, Pilibhit. Officials said the purpose of the blackout is to make it impossible for enemy aircraft or missiles to identify targets.
Live demonstration of disaster management and rescue operations
During the exercise, mock explosions were carried out and scenes of fire in buildings were created. After the blast in Barabanki, the fire brigade and bomb disposal squad took charge.
NCC cadets and civil defense volunteers lay down on the ground as soon as they heard the blasts in Meerut, which is standard protocol to avoid air strikes.

An exciting demonstration took place in Pilibhit and Fatehpur to rescue the injured buried under the debris. Showing 'response time', the ambulance of the health department immediately took the injured to the first aid center and district hospital. During this time, the readiness of health workers and disaster friends to carry the injured on stretchers was visible.

Police administration, civil defense, NDRF, SDRF, fire department, health department and Red Cross Society worked together in this massive event.
In Maharajganj, District Magistrate Santosh Kumar Sharma clarified that modern wars are not limited to borders only, hence awareness about the security of cities is mandatory.
On the other hand, in Varanasi, DM Satyendra Kumar and Police Commissioner Mohit Aggarwal inspected the joint coordination between NDRF and police.
Electricity was cut in the entire state at exactly 6 o'clock. At the end of the exercise an 'all clear' siren was sounded, after which power supply was restored. The officials gave a message to the general public that patience is the biggest weapon in such circumstances. People were taught to avoid rumors and follow the instructions of the administration.
At the Government Inter College, Fatehpur, children were taught how to take themselves and others to safe shelter during an attack.
