Case registered under Uttarakhand Prison Act. symbolic

During a routine check of security arrangements in the District Jail, a case of recovery of banned electronic equipment from the cell of a convicted prisoner has come to light. Seeing the seriousness of the matter, the Jail Superintendent lodged a complaint at Kotwali Almora for filing a First Information Report. On the basis of the complaint, the police have registered the case and started investigation.
According to the prison administration, the cell of prisoner Praveen Valmiki, son of Mohan Lal alias Madan Lal, resident of New Basti Kotwali Ganganahar Roorkee (district Haridwar), was searched under the leadership of Circle Jailer/Deputy Jailor Naeem Abbas, at around 2:40 pm on last February 2. During the search, a charger hidden inside the toilet seat of the cell, two data cables (one white and one black), a smart watch charger cable and two thin wires were recovered.
On receiving the information, on the instructions of Jail Superintendent, District Jail Jayant Pangati, at around 5:35 pm, the latrine seat was broken and a search was conducted again, in which a smart watch was recovered. The IMEI number of the smart watch was found to be 357319540921999 and serial number was 202312020092200. During investigation, many mobile numbers were also found registered in the contact list of the smart watch.
The detainee is convicted under other sections including the Gangster Act and was appearing in the court at the time of the incident. The prison administration has sealed all the recovered material and sent it to Almora police station along with evidence. Superintendent Jayant Pangati registered an FIR under Section 39 of the Uttarakhand Prison and Correctional Services Act-2024 and demanded legal action.
