Students will benefit from the initiative of the Postal Department.

Vidya Sagar, Patna. Student Parcel Discount Scheme: Department of Posts (India Post), taking an important decision in the interest of students, has started “Student Parcel Discount Scheme”. Under this scheme, students will be given 10 percent discount in postage fee on parcel booking.

This scheme will be implemented in the entire country from January 1, 2026. According to the order issued by the Postal Department, the objective of this scheme is to provide affordable, accessible and reliable parcel service to the students.

Crores of students in the country send books, projects, stationery and personal belongings between their homes and educational institutions during their studies, which puts additional financial burden on them. Students will get great relief from this scheme.

This exemption will be available to genuine students studying in all recognized educational institutions of the country, government and private schools, colleges, universities, vocational and distance education institutions.

At the time of parcel booking, it will be mandatory for the student to produce valid student identity card issued by the institute. This scheme will be applicable only on Speed Post Parcel (Retail) and India Post Parcel (Retail).

Bulk or contractual parcels will not be covered under this scheme. Rebate will be given only on basic postage charges and not on insurance or other value added services.

Both online and over the counter facilities

Students will be able to avail this discount through parcel booking at the post office counter as well as through the Click-n-Book portal. On selecting “Student” option at the time of booking, it will be mandatory to enter student name, institute name, student ID number and its validity date.

According to the Department of Posts, the discount will be automatically applied once the student ID details are entered into the system. Each receipt will be marked “Student Discount Applied – ID Verified”.

System generated reports will be generated to monitor the scheme. The Postal Department has instructed all circle heads to disseminate information about the scheme to all post offices and ensure its uniform implementation.

This scheme will not only be financially helpful for the students, but will also ease the movement of essential items related to education.
