High Court refuses to grant bail to the accused who stole metro cable.
Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. The Delhi High Court has refused to grant bail to the accused accused of stealing high-voltage cables from Delhi Metro, saying that such actions amount to playing with the lives of the general public and have a serious impact on people's safety. While rejecting the bail plea, a bench of Justice Saurabh Banerjee said that the crime is not a simple theft but directly endangers the safety of passengers and disrupts essential public infrastructure. The court said that the petitioner has not committed unwise acts and has certainly caused huge loss to the public exchequer. All these things cannot be ignored. The court took on record that the accused has been involved in several other cases and is not a petty criminal but a habitual offender. In view of the above facts and circumstances, the court said that public interest is more important than the claim of personal freedom. The accused is accused of theft of 33 KV power cable used for metro operation and the accused had filed a petition seeking bail. An FIR was lodged against the accused Shivam on June 30, 2025. Opposing the bail plea of the accused, the prosecution had said that 32.5 meter copper cable was recovered from the accused. It was also argued that there were already six FIRs against the accused in Shastri Park police station.
