Jagran correspondent, Meerut. The wound of engineer Yuvraj Mehta's death due to an open drain in Sector-150 of Noida had not yet healed when the negligence of Meerut Cantt Board and District Administration took another life. On Friday evening, an e-rickshaw went out of control and fell into a deep drain near the wooden bridge in Abu Lane, the busiest business area of the city.
In this accident, 42 year old driver Sunny died in agony after being crushed under the e-rickshaw and drowning in dirty water. With the help of police, relatives took Sunny to Dayawati Hospital, but the doctor there declared him dead. Even after the incident, no one has come to express condolences to the family of the deceased.
Sunny son Gurdeep Singh, resident of Rajban Khatik Colony, was returning home after dropping passengers at Begumpul in his e-rickshaw at around 4.25 pm on Friday evening. The road leading from the wooden bridge to Rajban has a steep slope. Due to rain and bad weather, the e-rickshaw suddenly went out of control on the slope.
There was no boundary wall on the bank of the drain.
There was no boundary wall or safety wall on the banks of the drain, due to which the rickshaw overturned directly into the deep drain. Like the Yuvraj Mehta incident, a scene of insensitivity was seen in Meerut too. After the accident, a huge crowd gathered at the spot, but no one entered the drain to save Sunny.
It was fortunate that there was no passenger in the rickshaw. Sunny remained buried under the e-rickshaw in the dirty water of the drain for about 30 minutes. On information, fire brigade reached the spot.
Sadar Bazar police, with the help of local people, took Sunny out and took him to Dayawati Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
CO Navina Shukla said that the family had refused to take any action. Due to this, the body was handed over to the family without post-mortem. He says that due to the seizure, the e-rickshaw went out of control and fell into the drain.
Relatives said, e-rickshaw overturned due to slipping
