Tax Evasion Was Being Done Through Bogus Bills In Timber Business, Mobile Squad Of State Tax Department Caught The Truck.

Jagran correspondent, Moradabad. Another case of tax evasion through bogus bills in timber business has come to light. Late on Wednesday night, the mobile squad team of the state tax department caught a truck loaded with wood from Rampur area. The goods loaded in this truck were being sent to Haryana, but during investigation, irregularities were found in the documents.

According to state tax officials, the truck driver could not produce valid e-waybill and other required documents related to the goods on the spot. The documents shown prima facie appeared to be bogus. Investigation also revealed that the record of the firm in whose name the goods were being sent was already questionable and complaints regarding matters related to this firm had reached the department in the past also.

The team stopped the truck laden with wood on the spot and seized the goods. At present the quantity of goods and its price are being assessed. Along with this, investigation of GST returns, e-waybill and previous transactions of the concerned firm has also been started.

The State Tax Department has clarified that complaints of tax evasion in the timber business are being received continuously, which is being strictly monitored. If any violation of rules is found, tax, interest and fine action will be taken against the concerned businessman. After this action, there is a stir among the traders involved in timber business.

A campaign is being run against those who evade GST. In this, seven trucks of scrap, one truck full of wood and tax evasive white metal ingot weighing about 1,900 kg etc. have been recovered from two passenger buses. All the cases are being investigated.
