Jagran correspondent, Maharajganj. The court has convicted the accused in the case of kidnapping and raping a teenage girl in a village of Sadar Kotwali police station area two and a half years ago.
Special Judge Exclusive Court (POCSO Act) PC Kushwaha has punished the convicted accused with 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2.06 lakh. If the accused does not pay the fine, he will have to undergo additional imprisonment of six months.
Additional Superintendent of Police Siddharth said that under the Operation Conviction campaign being run in the district, the police and prosecution have achieved great success in giving strict punishment to the culprit in a heinous crime.
According to the developments, on July 26, 2023, a case was registered against the accused for kidnapping the girl by luring her and raping her at knifepoint. In this case, the police had filed a charge sheet against the accused under rape and SC-ST Act.
