Digital Desk, New Delhi. On June 12, 2025, Air India flight AI 171 carrying 242 passengers suddenly crashed. The plane collided with the medical hospital building shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad airport in Gujarat. Many months have passed since this accident, but the real reason for the plane crash has not yet been revealed.

America's Aviation Safety Campaign Group claims that Air India's Boeing 787 aircraft had technical faults. Even before taking off from Ahmedabad airport, the plane had to face technical glitches several times.

FAS presented report in US Parliament

The Foundation for Aviation Safety (FAS) has submitted a report to the US Congress on 12 January 2026. According to Hindustan Times report, FAS found in its investigation that the aircraft had started having technical problems since it became a part of Air India.

The FAS says the aircraft had significant engineering, quality and maintenance deficiencies. Many problems like electronics, software, frequent tripping of circuit breakers, bad wiring, short circuit, short circuit in power supply and power system overheating were reported in the plane.

Boeing has also responded to FAS's claims. According to a Boeing spokesperson, "We follow the protocols of the United Nations International Civil Aviation Organization. Whatever decision the AAIB makes in the plane crash in India, we will follow it." At the same time, Air India has maintained silence on this.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) in its preliminary report had indicated that the plane crash was due to the fuel switch being closed. It was compared to the Boeing 737 Max crash.

FAS claim on plane crash

FAS has claimed in its report that the Boeing 787 is running 3 years behind schedule. Its budget has reached billions of dollars. System failure has occurred in more than 2000 Boeing 787 aircraft.

FAS further said that the Boeing 787 was completed in 2011 and made its first flight in December 2013. It was handed over to Air India on 28 January 2014. At the same time, this aircraft took its first commercial flight on 8 February 2014.
