The historical wall of Delhi will narrate the story of bravery of the first revolution of 1857.

Shashi Thakur, New Delhi. The historical wall of Delhi, gathering dust of time, will narrate the story of bravery of the first revolution. The ancient wall (Kashmiri Gate) of Shahjahanabad, which saw the rise and fall of Sultanates over the centuries and bore the brunt of the fierce attacks of the first war of independence in 1857. She is now going to come alive in a new avatar.

Kashmere Gate is being beautified as part of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. After this, Mori Gate and Delhi Gate will be beautified.

The old wall will shine with colorful lights

According to ASI officials, there is a plan to start a light and sound show on the lines of the Red Fort at this historical site. In which the bravery of the Revolution of 1857 will be brought alive on the walls through modern technology. However, the project is currently in its final stages.

The gate is being given a new look by cleaning the moss accumulated on the walls of Kashmiri Gate and the pile of dirt in the premises. According to officials, it will be opened for tourists by the middle of this year as soon as electricity connection is provided and the work of increasing the height of the rear walls and planting grass in the complex is completed.

Journey from ruins to heritage hub

Kashmiri Gate, built by Shahjahan in the year 1835, once the main gate leading to Kashmir, was the target of British cannons during the Revolution. Today the Maharana Pratap Bus Terminal is bustling with activity. At the same time, ASI is creating an island of peace and beauty behind these walls. To protect the gate from anti-social elements, about 12 CCTV cameras have been installed in the entire complex.

Next turn of Mori and Delhi Gate

Rajkumar Anand, Superintending Archaeologist of Delhi Division of ASI, said that this campaign is not limited to Kashmiri Gate only. Renovation work will also be started at Mori Gate and Delhi Gate. At present, the strategy of the department is to expand such shows to other historical gates only after seeing the reaction of the audience and the place at Kashmiri Gate. These walls of Old Delhi will no longer be just a brick and stone structure but will become a grand place for the coming generations to come face to face with their heritage.
