People protesting at the gate of Shaheenbagh cemetery regarding the problem of drain blockage. Awakening
Jagran correspondent, South Delhi. The population of around three lakhs of Abul Fazal and Shaheenbagh has been suffering the brunt of a small technical flaw for the last two months. People have to wade through drain water on Maulana Shibli Nomani Road.
From e-rickshaw to bike riders, people keep falling and getting injured. Local residents are on strike since January 2 against the MLA and councilor regarding the problem. On Tuesday too, people raised slogans against MLA Amanatullah Khan and Councilor Ariba Khan. According to people, a separate drain was to be made from near Shaheenbagh police station to Agra Canal for the treated water coming out of the STP (sewage treatment plant) located in Jasola village, so that this clean water could be properly utilised. But the opposite happened.
Instead of making a separate drain, it was connected to Shaheenbagh drain without mixing the levels. Due to this, Abul Fazal Enclave road is being filled with dirty drain water up to the knees, people from e-rickshaws to bike riders are falling into it.
At the same time, the cleaned water coming out of Jasola STP is again getting mixed in the dirty drain. The load in Sarita Vihar STP has doubled due to the arrival of water from Shaheenbagh drain as well as Jasola. To solve the problem, fresh repairs need to be done near the gatewall.
Complaints were made several times to the local MLA and councilor, but till now there seems to be no solution to the problem. Shahzad Ali Idrisi, lawyer Qureshi, Javed Hasan Khan etc. were present in the protest.
To solve the problem, fresh repairs need to be done near the gatewall. Approval has been received from other related departments including the Irrigation Department. Grape-three has also been removed. The work to repair it will be started on priority basis.
