Maoists Samuel Hassa, Chambra Munda and Birsa Birsa Munda have been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment each in the case of firing on police.
State Bureau, Ranchi. The court of Additional Justice AK Tiwari on Wednesday sentenced Maoists Samuel Hassa, Chambra Munda and Birsa Birsa Munda to 10 years imprisonment each in the case of firing on the police.
The court has imposed a fine of Rs 42-42 thousand on all three. If not given, additional jail time will have to be served. The court had convicted all three in the case on Tuesday.
The court has sentenced all three under four sections of the Arms Act and on charges of obstructing government work. During the hearing, the charge of possessing a large quantity of illegal weapons was proved against all three.
All three were already in judicial custody. The case was registered on the complaint of the then station incharge of Namkum police station, Sunil Kumar Tiwari.
Were demanding levy from road construction contractor, then police arrived
It is alleged that on June 11, 2022, a rural road was being constructed by Jai Mata Di Construction Company in the south-eastern forest of Sogod village of Namkum. Meanwhile, the three militants were demanding levy from the contractor.
On receiving the information, the police arrived for the raid, when the militants started firing on the police force. In retaliation, Samuel Hassa was injured by a bullet in his waist. The police chased and arrested the three Maoists.
During the search, a huge quantity of weapons were recovered from them. During the hearing of the case, statements of 12 witnesses were recorded by the prosecution, on the basis of which the court convicted the three accused.
Discharge petition of Gumla's then DEO rejected
The discharge petition of Gumla's then District Education Officer (DEO) Sunil Shekhar Kujur and computer operator Anoop Kindo, accused in the bribery case, was heard in the special court of ACB.
After the hearing, the court on Wednesday rejected the discharge petition filed by both of them. The petition was filed on August 4. The matter is related to the complaint of teacher Kunti Devi.
It is alleged that on May 12, 2023, Maghi Girls High School in Gumla district was inspected by the then DEO Sunil Shekhar Kujur. After this, in the inspection report submitted on December 9, 2023, many serious allegations were made against teacher Kunti Devi and an explanation was sought from her.
Kunti Devi also gave her reply on time, but despite this, a bribe of Rs 1 lakh was demanded from her in exchange for acquittal. Upset with this, the teacher complained to the ACB.
After verification of the complaint, on January 18, 2024, the ACB team reached Gumla and arrested DEO Sunil Shekhar Kujur and computer operator Anoop Kindo red handed while taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.
