Digital Desk, New Delhi. Cold wave continues in the northern parts of the country. A drop was recorded in the minimum temperature in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday and Sonamarg was the coldest place, where the minimum temperature was minus 8.9 degrees Celsius. The weather department has predicted rain and snowfall in the next few days, especially in the higher reaches of the valley.

There has been light snowfall at some places on the high hills of Himachal Pradesh. The capital Delhi remained in the grip of dense fog on Sunday morning and the minimum temperature was 5.3 degrees Celsius, which is 2.3 degrees below the average. Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of minus 4.7 degrees Celsius, officials said on Sunday.

Minimum temperature in Shopian is minus 6.7 degrees

Shopian in south Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of minus 6.7 degrees Celsius, while Pahalgam recorded a minimum temperature of minus six degrees Celsius. Light snowfall occurred in Koksar and Hansa villages of Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, while the weather remained dry in most parts of the state. Hamirpur, Una and Mandi recorded temperatures of 2.1, 2.7 and 3.9 degrees Celsius respectively.

Light snowfall in higher areas till January 20 - Meteorological Department

The Meteorological Department has said that light snowfall will continue in the higher reaches of the state till January 20, while the weather will remain dry in the rest of the state. The lowest temperature of 1.7 degrees Celsius in Punjab was recorded in Amritsar. The minimum temperature in Hoshiarpur was recorded at 3.4 degrees Celsius. Chandigarh, the common capital of Punjab and Haryana, also had a cold night at 5.5 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees below normal.

Faridkot recorded minimum temperature of 5.4 degree Celsius

Patiala and Faridkot in Punjab recorded a minimum temperature of 5.4 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Ludhiana was 6.4 degrees Celsius, Gurdaspur recorded 5.8 degrees Celsius, while Bathinda recorded a minimum temperature of seven degrees Celsius. In Haryana, Narnaul recorded a minimum temperature of 5.2 degrees Celsius, while Gurugram recorded a minimum temperature of 5.6 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Ambala was 6.8 degrees, while the minimum temperature in Rohtak was seven degrees Celsius.

Cold wave in some parts of Jharkhand - Meteorological Department

The Meteorological Department said that cold wave conditions continued in some parts of Jharkhand as the mercury dropped below 10 degrees Celsius in 11 districts. The lowest temperature in the state was recorded at 3.1 degrees Celsius in Gumla, followed by 3.9 degrees Celsius in Khunti and 4.7 degrees Celsius in Palamu. The minimum temperature was recorded at 6.6 degrees Celsius in the capital Ranchi, 8.2 degrees Celsius in Chaibasa and 9.6 degrees Celsius in Jamshedpur.
