There has been a change in the quantity of food grains received by cardholders. Awakening
Jagran correspondent, Chaubepur. Cardholders who took ration from Kota shops in the month of February will get less quantity of wheat and more rice this time. This change has been made in the food grain distribution system by the government on the instructions of the Food Commissioner, under which the quantity of food grains provided to Antyodaya and eligible household card holders has been revised.
According to the new system, Antyodaya card holders will now get a total of 35 kg of food grains, but the quantity of wheat has been reduced. Whereas earlier 14 kg wheat and 21 kg rice were available, now 10 kg wheat and 25 kg rice will be distributed in the month of February. That means the quantity of wheat has been reduced by four kilos and the quantity of rice has been increased by four kilos.
At the same time, changes have also been made in the five kg food grains per unit/person available to eligible household card holders. Where earlier two kilos of wheat and three kilos of rice were available, now one kilo of wheat and four kilos of rice will be available. Thus, cardholders of all categories will be given less wheat and more rice this month.
According to the Food Department, the supply of wheat and rice in the prescribed quantity for distribution in the month of February has almost reached the quota shops and ration is to be distributed in the same proportion. Departmental officials say that distribution of food grains is mandatory as per the amount allotted by the government.

However, due to less quantity of wheat, there is confusion among the farmers of the area. Kotedars say that at this time the demand of most of the cardholders is for wheat, whereas due to the large quantity of rice, there may be difficulty in convincing people during distribution. Kotedars also say that if complete rice was available, distribution would have been relatively easy.
At present, the Food Department has made it clear that the ration distribution in the month of February will be done as per the new system set by the government, because food grains have been made available in the same proportion.
