Technology Desk, New Delhi. Two well-known smartphone brands, Realme and OnePlus, are reportedly going to undergo a major makeover. Now both these companies will work as sub-brands of Oppo. This move is part of Oppo's larger plan to simplify its business structure and improve efficiency. Even though Realme and OnePlus will be under the same parent company, they will follow different market strategies and target different types of users.

According to Leifeng.com, Realme founder and CEO Sky Li will be responsible for managing all of Oppo's sub-brands, including Realme and OnePlus. Meanwhile, Li Jie will continue in his current role as President of OnePlus China. Oppo believes that clearly defining roles will reduce internal confusion, avoid overlapping work, and help each brand implement its plans more effectively.

A major change will be seen in the after-sales service of Realme. Realme will now fully utilize Oppo's after-sales service network. Realme products will be launched on their scheduled schedule.

From a business perspective, the move makes sense. With Realme and OnePlus working under Oppo, there will be no need for three separate teams for research and development, logistics and after-sales service. Oppo is expected to merge service network and engineering resources. This will help the company reduce costs and better deal with current challenges such as global memory chip shortage.

However, from the user's perspective, this change may not be entirely positive. Earlier, OnePlus brought OxygenOS closer to Oppo's ColorOS. Now, something similar can happen with Realme UI also. This increases the concern that the three brands will start looking too similar, leaving less difference between them. Even though users may see different brand names, the experience may feel almost the same.
