Tilak Forcibly Removed From The Forehead Of A Hindu Youth Near The Dargah In Barabanki, Video Of The Incident Goes Viral

Accused Javed in police custody

Samvad Sutra, Jagran Deva (Barabanki). A case of communal discrimination has come to light outside Haji Waris Ali Shah Dargah in Dewa. The prasad vendor wearing a cap addressed a young man standing outside with a tilak on his forehead with wrong words, then pressed the young man and forcibly removed the tilak on his forehead by washing it with water. On the complaint of the victim, the police have taken the accused into custody. The video of the case is being circulated.

Harish Sharma, a resident of Dussehra Bagh Patel Nagar of Kotwali Nagar, had come to pay obeisance at Deva Dargah on Thursday along with a Muslim woman (aunty) living in his neighbourhood. The woman had gone inside the Dargah for darshan, while Harish was standing outside about a hundred meters before the main gate of the Dargah.

It is alleged that Javed Warsi, a resident of the town who sells sinni-chadar on Dargah Road, addressed him as Oye Pandit and said that are you wearing tilak here?

When Harish protested against this, Javed started abusing and started fighting. Not only this, Javed pressed Harish, who was younger than him in age and health, with his left hand and took him near the shop and forcefully poured water on his forehead and washed it, which is kept for washing hands of people.

When protested, the accused started abusing. By then the woman who had come out also objected to this behaviour. The accused also misbehaved with her. When both of them reached Kotwali Dewa and complained about the matter, the police immediately came into action and took the accused youth into custody. In-charge Inspector Dharmendra Kumar Singh said that the complaint has been received. The accused Javed Warsi is being interrogated after getting the video footage taken into custody.

Dargah Trust Manager Saad Mahmood Warsi said that this incident of racial discrimination near the shrine is unforgivable, if there is truth in the incident then the culprit must be punished.
