Jagran correspondent, Mathura. A major and dangerous negligence has come to light on Friday night while the Municipal Corporation was laying the Ganga water pipeline under the railway underpass near Bhuteshwar.
The PNG line of the Toronto company was damaged during excavation. Due to this, a strong leakage of gas started. Surprisingly, after the incident, the workers working on the spot went home without any security arrangements, leaving the work incomplete.
People informed the police and fire brigade due to the smell of gas. Toronto workers were called at 11:15 pm and the pipe was replaced. After this people heaved a sigh of relief.
To lay the Ganga water pipe in the city, the Municipal Corporation is digging the pipeline under the railway underpass near Bhuteshwar.
The workers left after digging on Friday evening. Toronto's PNG line burst during excavation. A strong foul smell started coming from 9 o'clock in the night. Suddenly a strong foul smell spread in the railway underpass and surrounding area.
When passers-by and local people realized the gas leak, there was chaos in the area. An atmosphere of fear was created among the people that some major accident might happen. Pedestrians found it difficult to move amid the foul smell. Someone informed the police and fire brigade. Kotwali police reached the spot.
The police personnel were shocked to feel the foul smell. The fire brigade reached the spot and controlled the area for safety. The firefighters immediately ordered officials and technical staff of the Toronto company to be called, as only the company's experts could repair the PNG line.
At about 11:30 p.m., Toronto crews began repairing the gas leak. After a lot of effort, the gas leak could be controlled, only then people heaved a sigh of relief. Vinod Kumar of fire brigade said that the situation is under control.
