Asif Ali, Amroha. By printing fake receipt book of Jal Nigam, the tube well operator collected Rs 5 lakh from the villagers by pretending to be tax in two years. This incident of village Chakanwala in Gajraula of Amroha was exposed through Right to Information (RTI). The victim took refuge in the court. After this, the court has ordered to register an FIR against the tube well operator. During the year 2018, a water tank was built and a pipeline was laid in village Chakanwala of Amroha.
Also given 500 connections in the village. Tube well operator Naresh Kumar started collecting tax from the connection holders. For this, he started issuing receipts in the name of the Executive Engineer of UP Jal Nigam (Construction Division). A receipt of Rs 2000 was issued as annual tax in the name of each villager. Pratapal alias Prathe of the same village was also given a receipt of two thousand rupees on March 19, 2025.
Information sought from XEN Jal Nigam through RTI
Pratapal sought information in this regard from XEN Jal Nigam through RTI in June 2025. It was found that they had not issued any receipt book. The matter was not heard at the police station level nor did the department register a case. On this, Pratapal approached the court through advocate Mohan Singh with receipt and RTI. During the hearing, the court ordered the Gajraula police to register an FIR against the accused operator Naresh Singh.
Village head Lajja Devi of Chakanwala said that in her village it has been decided to collect a tax of Rs 50 per month from the connection holders. This works out to Rs 600 annually. There is no information about how much money the operator is charging. Nor has he deposited any fee in the village fund. XEN Chandrahas said that the matter will be investigated.
By the way, connection holders can now also deposit tax online in Gram Nidhi. This is the rule: Under any scheme related to drinking water, a tax of Rs 50 is collected from the connection holder by the government. This scheme is operated by the Gram Panchayat. Gram Panchayat collects this annual tax from the connection holder for the repair of tube wells and pipelines.
