The arrested accused have been identified as Veeraj alias Pratiksha of Rajapuri and Bharat alias Mannni of Uttam Nagar. In the encounter, a miscreant was shot in the leg and was admitted to the hospital. Police have recovered two pistols, magazine, two cartridges and scooter from them.

Senior police officer said that dozens of cases are registered against accused Bharat. He works on the orders of jailed gangster Vinod alias Vicky Sanyasi. It had recently threatened a businessman in Bindapur police station area and opened fire at his office to settle a land issue. The police is investigating the case by interrogating the arrested accused.

According to Crime Branch Deputy Commissioner Harsh Indora, a team was formed under the supervision of ACP Bhagwati Prasad and under the leadership of Inspector Pawan Kumar to arrest the accused. In view of the recent incidents of extortion by gangsters and their increasing activities of shooting at victims to extort money, the Crime Branch was assigned the responsibility to nab the miscreants.

Meanwhile, Head Constable Amit Kumar got secret information that the wanted accused in the Bindapur case was about to come to UER-II. As soon as the information was received, the team reached the spot and laid a trap. At around 2:10 pm on Sunday night, two people riding a scooter were seen coming to the police. On stopping the scooter, the accused took out their pistols and started running towards the bushes, taking advantage of the darkness.

After this, Amit Kumar fired one round in the air to stop the absconding accused from stopping and firing on the raiding team. Another bullet hit the leg of accused Veeraj.

After this, the police team caught both the accused and recovered illegal weapons from their possession. During interrogation, it was revealed that in the first week of this month, they had looted the scooter used in the crime from a passerby on the road of Uttam Nagar near Kali Basti.

Bharat came in contact with Vinod alias Vicky during his stay in jail.

Accused Bharat studied till eighth grade and after that worked as a motor mechanic in Som Bazaar, Delhi for about three years. During this time he fell into smack addiction. To fulfill his demand for drugs, he started committing thefts.

While being lodged in Tihar Jail, he met Vinod alias Vicky Sanyasi, on whose advice he started extorting money from people and threatening people by firing to create pressure in disputes.

Co-accused Veeraj was born in Bengal and his family moved to Delhi in 2003. He studied till 12th and taught tuition to children from 2023 to 2025. In the year 2025, he came in contact with India and got involved in criminal activities due to drug addiction.
