A woman along with her infant granddaughter died in a road accident amidst fog on Wednesday morning in front of Tiwaripur village of Manikpur on the Prayagraj-Lucknow National Highway. The accident happened around 8:30 in the morning, when an unknown vehicle hit a woman and a girl crossing the road. There was chaos at the spot after the accident.

45-year-old Sumitra Patel, wife of Ram Sajeevan Patel, resident of Tiwaripur village, was going on the highway to get milk for her with her 10-month-old granddaughter Aaradhya Patel, daughter of Raju Patel in her lap. Meanwhile, a speeding unknown vehicle going from Lucknow to Prayagraj hit both of them, due to which they were seriously injured.

The girl jumped from his lap due to the shock and fell on the road. As soon as the information about the accident was received, the relatives reached the spot and immediately took both of them to the Community Health Center, Kunda. The doctors there declared Sumitra Patel and innocent Aaradhya dead after investigation. As soon as the news of death was received, there was mourning in the family. After some time Manikpur police reached the spot and started action.

Police sent both the bodies for post-mortem. Police station in-charge Narendra Singh said that investigation is being done and an unknown vehicle is being searched. Efforts are being made to identify the vehicle with the help of CCTV cameras installed nearby and eyewitnesses. Villagers have expressed their displeasure over vehicles moving at uncontrolled speed on the highway and the difficulties they are facing in crossing the road due to this.
