The speed of vehicles is thirty km. not exceed per hour

Anshu Dixit, Jagran, Lucknow: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has made a plan to prevent accidents due to fog on national highways. NHAI has given clear instructions that the speed of vehicles should be thirty km. Do not exceed per hour.

Along with this, NHAI has also ordered the police and highway operator team to patrol at different times. Not only this, the drivers passing through the toll have been instructed to provide the mobile number and directory book installed on the toll.

The aim is that the driver can tell on the concerned mobile number where the fog is more and less. This can alert the drivers behind. The highway operators are not completely following the guidelines of NHAI. These orders issued on 27 November 2025 have to be completed by 27 December 2025 under any circumstances. Failure to do so may result in the authority taking action against the highway operators.

To prevent accidents on other national highways including Lucknow to Kanpur, Sitapur, Rae Bareli, Ayodhya, Hardoi, Sultanpur, NHAI has given instructions to completely follow the guidelines of the Indian Road Congress. Police, highway operations and contractors have been asked to conduct mandatory night highway inspections on a weekly basis along with having red/green flashing rods to direct traffic in case of an accident. Apart from this, instructions have been given to make adequate arrangements for lighting of reflectors, crossings, ramps, dividers even before the construction starts.

NHAI General Manager (Coordinator) Sanjay Kumar Patel has mentioned in the orders that the roadside barriers should be visible to the drivers from a distance, reflectors should be installed on them at a fixed distance, which should be visible from a distance. Along with improving road engineering at black spots, there should be adequate arrangements for lighting. Install median markers on the median and RCC i.e. reinforced cement concrete barriers at a distance of two meters in urban areas and at a distance of five meters on highways, expressways in rural areas.

Keep these things in mind also

If there is a lighting system on the National Highway, then it should be switched on well in advance during fog and night. Lighting should be done by installing 25 meter high high mast as soon as the divider starts on the Highway. Solar studs should be installed on mini bridges, ROBs, entry/exit ramps. Five solar studs i.e. solar powered road safety warning lights on each side of the slip road. On construction areas, safety measures should be taken at diversions, such as concrete diversion footpath markings, Road studs, barricades, diversion signs, solar blinkers. It is necessary to install reflector tape on the entire width of the vehicles plying on the highway and have white color at the front and red color at the rear.
